Sanitizer may have damaged GBP

Postby looenteas » Tue Sep 26, 2017 4:30 am

Hello,

I decided that I needed to start sanitizing my jars/equipment and sanitized them with Star San (http://www.fivestarchemicals.com/wp-con ... ch-HB2.pdf).

My first ferment smelled and tasted different from previous ferments. Also, the color was a little lighter than usual, which hinted that something was going wrong. I used the same recipe practically every time.

Is my GBP permanently destroyed? How should I sanitize my equipment? Boiling at 170 degrees?

Thanks for your response!

Hmm, ginger beer is pretty tough stuff and should hold up to typical sanitizers. The jar and equipment don't even need to be sanitized to be honest. Just a normal clean. It's not like yogurt or beer making where you need a sterile environment and you control all the variables. It's like a living entity and will do fine in any environment, even a dirty one.
