I am reviving about 1/4 c of grains I just received in the mail. I put them in a 32 oz jar with 1/2 C of brown sugar. Does this seem ok?

I would recommend doing about only 1/4 cup of sugar starting out. Once it gets going, you can add a couple more tablespoons of sugar if desired. There's so many different types and brands of brown sugar, but many times brown sugar does okay. If not, you may want to try another mineral rich sugar such as rapadura or sucanat. Or try a combination of cane sugar and a mineral rich sugar so its not so heavy.
