Equipment Separation for Water & Milk Kefir

Hello, my name is Mike. I've been making milk kefir for a few weeks now and have had good success. I just received some water kefir grains today and am wondering about how strict I have to be about separating the equipment, (bottles, strainers, etc.) that I use for the 2 types of kefirs.

If I wash a bottle used for milk kefir in soap and water, is that good enough before using with water kefir, or do I need to sterilize it before switching between the different types of kefir?

Mike

I think some basic common sense separation is all that is needed. A good wash is probably enough. I've actually never heard of milk and water kefir grains contaminating each other or crossing with each other. I think they are just too different. I would not worry too much about it.
