Reviving frozen water kefir grains

I had such an abundance of growth I was trying to store them(in their own kefir water) in an outdoor insulated cooler. It froze. I think I read somewhere that can be ok. However, I am wondering how long I can keep them that way? and...when I want to thaw and revive them, is there anything different I should do when adding new sugar water to them as if starting a new ferment?

The should come back okay. I think they last several months in the fridge. You can thaw them out in water before doing the first batch, or just do the first batch and it will thaw and start working right away.
