Re: Sudden problem with goat milk kefir

Thanks so much, Alex. That was helpful. UPDATE: As mentioned, I cleaned the grains and poured more of that new brand of goat milk over them. Three days later... totally separated, and a stinking horribly smelly mass on the top. Once again I cleaned the poor grains, and put them in a jar of purified ...

Me introducing myself

Hi everyone. My name is Bonnie. I live in North Carolina. In the interests of better digestive health, I got some grains from a friend and began making my own kefir. So now many of my close friends make their own kefir. I almost always keep it in a dark cupboard in my kitchen to ferment. If I have t...

Re: Introduction

Best of luck for ever-improving health for your daughter. Great idea to start making your own cultured foods for her. I've been making Kefir for about two years now, and just love it.

What veggies can be fermented successfully?

For instance, if I ferment sliced cucumbers with salt and a little kefir whey, would the result be edible and anything like pickles?
What other veggies can be fermented?
I know about cabbage, carrots, and beets.

Re: Who has used the whey from Kifer milk as a started for fermented veggies?

Very good ideas!! I'm just beginning to make sauerkraut. Had to throw away two jars in the learning process. I had been wondering about adding a little kefir to get things rolling inside the jar. But it seems as if it might cause a whole different process to happen, different from normal sauerkraut ...

Sudden problem with goat milk kefir

Hi ~ I love the Yemoos site and send everyone who wants to know about kefir here! I have been making kefir from low-pasteurized, unhomogenized, local goats milk for about two years now. I love it, and love watching my little grains grow and change. Last week I bought a different brand of low-heat-pa...
